One of the reasons most new homes constructed today aren't wired up to be Home Automation friendly is cost. The average home-builder isn't willing to pay extra on the off chance that the buyer is interested in home automation.

That could soon change with the introduction of the Icon line of home automation lighting products from SmartLabs, parent company of SmartHome.

These INSTEON enabled components are designed to cost the same as conventional components, making them attractive to home builders on a budget.

These aren't just for new construction, though. They are readily adaptable to homes that are already built.
