Remote Controls
by dorri on January 3, 2006

The good folks over at O'reilly Digital Media show us how.
Briefly, it involves using a Pocket PC, an iPod, and some special software (and audio to IR adapter) from Griffin Technology.
The Pocket PC is used to "record" the IR beam from the original remote control and convert it to an audio signal, which is stored on your iPod.
This audio file, when played, is converted back to an IR signal by Griffin's audio to IR adapter.
Pretty slick!
