I have to say I don't have an ear for music like some people do but if you need unmatched sound out of your speakers, you may want to check out the Beolab 5s speakers from Bang & Olufsen. If you know the Bang & Olufsen name, you know that you'll probably need a second mortgage to pay for these top of the line speakers that run about $17,000. There's an interesting article at the Chicago Tribune about a couple who invested in the Beolab 5s that states:
For the price of a 2005 Victory Hammer motorcycle or an acre in northern Wisconsin, the Wards got a pair of speakers with a patented "moving microphone system" that automatically measures the room and obstacles like furniture and people. Then it delivers up to 2,500 watts in a 180-degree arc that makes almost every angle in the room a sweet spot. The speakers' metallic rings ("acoustic lenses" is the technical term) distribute the sound, though they look like you could set down a pop can on their surface. (Not recommended, not even with a coaster.)

Maybe they'll let me come over and drool outside their window?
