I'm Not Anti-Tivo, Honest!

Geez, I seem to have woke up the Tivo die-hards. Some emailers have said I've been too hard on Tivo in my posts. Let me clarify. I think Tivo is a great product that's had a great spot in the market several years ago. The problem is as a company, Tivo hasn't adapted. They're getting beat up by cable companies that are offering PVRs that are comparable to Tivo with no upfront cost and usually a lower monthly cost.

With TivoToGo, Tivo had the chance to jump ahead again. The problem is the service has taken a beating the last few weeks by the media and consumers. Then in the middle of the turmoil, the CEO steps down. Definitely not a combination that will endear consumers.

I hope Tivo works out the kinks and improves TivoToGo. If they do that, I believe they can take back the market, but they need to do it fast.
