Making a Copy of a Song is Stealing
Filed in archive Audio by Elwyn Jenkins on October 7, 2007
We have a central audio system that pipes music to each room according to the occupant's selection. To do this we have made a copy of each CD we have in our family's collection and placed that on a main server.

Well according to the first jury trial for copyright infringement via file-sharing, Sony BMG's witness Jennifer Pariser suggests that it is wrong for a customer to make even one copy of a CD even if it is for personal reasons.

This means that Sony BMG are of the opinion that every use of the tracks on a CD should be used directly from a CD and should not be copied to a totally electronic system. If we need a copy to add to our main home audio system we should purchase an electronic copy and not rip from a CD.

All I can say is WOW! Ouch! So what is the CD malfunctions? You mean to say I cannot even take a back-up copy of a CD? What happens when the CD wears out or malfunctions? Gotta buy a new one? Ouch!
