Gaming Systems

According to The Financial Times, the Nintendo Wii has outsold Microsoft Xbox 360 and a long way in front of the PlayStation 3.

According to this report, there were more than 9 million Nintendo Wii sold compared to the Xbox 360 which sold only 8.9 million. So the Wii has just outsold the Microsoft box. However, both the Wii and the Xbox have out gunned the PlayStation 3 by a very wide margin.
The PS3 is dead in the water having achieved sales of only 3.2 million.
You might think these sales figures are very low compared with other figures you might have seen in the press. The report from The Financial Times bases its figures on game systems sold and not on games systems that have been shipped or made. There is a big difference between how many have been shipped compared to those actually sold.
If you are planning on investing in a games machine, I would suggest that the two largest rival machines would be safe to pick from. Usually the top selling machines attract software engineers to write more games for the machines. As the number of machines actually sold rise higher so too does the market for new games increase.
However, because the sales figures for the top two machines are within striking distance from each other, I do not think we have heard the last of this sales war.
