I had to have at least 32", the wife wouldn't let me have anything larger than ~45" in her living room. We also jointly decided that we wouldn't buy anything cheap. Name brands only.
So, ground rules set, we headed to Circuit City, Best Buy, and hhgregg (all three are local) to do some preliminary shopping. We both fell in love with the 40" sony bravia XBR (KDL-V40XBR1), and would probably have bought it without doing our homework if any of the stores had it in stock. It seems they are pretty popular.
We decided that day to get the 32" Sony Bravia (KLV-S32A10), as it had the sharpest picture of any we saw. I couldn't justify spending ~$700 more for the XBR model.
After a whirlwind internet research session, I found Best Buy to have the best price locally. We bought it the next day, and couldn't be more pleased.
It supports 480p, 480i, and 1080i and runs a native resolution of 1366x768.
This is the first TV I've owned that clearly shows the limitations of DVD video. Compared to High Definition broadcasts, DVDs just can't compare.
If you have any questions, post them in the comments and I will try to answer them.

Thank you for your reveiw. I am in the same process that you were in regarding the two Sonys (yours and the XBR). Is there anything you can share from your experience that will help me in making my decision. The XBR picture is so amazing that I am swayed because I have not seen anything that perfect before..Thank you!

Thomas,
I wasn't able to see any difference in picture quality between the XBR and Bravia sets. The XBR has a built-in HDTV tuner for receiving over the air HDTV broadcasts, and it also has a USB port for viewing digital pictures, etc. The XBR also supports CableCard technology.
I hope this helps,
Dorri

Don't you just love tiny TVs? I guess I would if I was in a situation where I needed some portable
