The future of the wired home
Filed in archive Wired Home General on January 24, 2006

You can read Rob Enderle's thoughts on this topic on TechNewsWorld.
I'd have to agree with most of what he writes, but I take exception to his thoughts that using embedded linux over Windows leads to "horrid support". It has been my experience that any Open Source software will always have better support, largely because the people providing the support are doing what they want instead of just what they are paid to do.
All in all, a good read.

Interesting article. Eventually all appliances including ovens, dishwashers, washers, dryers and etc. will have imbedded chips that allow for technicians to troubleshoot error conditions remotely and then bring out the required parts, based on the error codes, to repair the appliance.
