reports on the latest craze driving new parents in the article "Tots Getting Internet Identity at Birth". Yes, what they are doing is picking baby's new name and then before making it official, the parents are testing to see whether the baby's name has an available matching domain name online.
Some parents are not just getting the domain name, such as "ElizabethNewsome.com" but are also snatching a Gmail address to match, such as elizabethnewsom@gmail.com.
Apparently, even though baby may not be able to use these online identifiers, parents are setting up the domain to show baby pictures, and other niceties for grandparents and other family members to view.

It is rather remarkable that new parents seem to think that we will be using these identifier tools in ten, fifteen or twenty years from now. And it is rather remarkable that parents will build such a public site in spite of the fact that there are major security risks.
Imagine, in a few years the ultimate will be for each family member to have her/his own website, domain, and matching email addresses. This would seem to be what we might imagine the ultimate wired family will be like.
How about your family? Each member have his/her own online identity?
