If this is the future of PVR, the future looks pretty bright. The Toshiba RD-Z1is a DVD (8x Recording) and PVR in one, has 600GB of hard drive storage and can record shows with a Variable Bit Rate (VBR) of 24Mbps.

The really cool feature is that It's possible to record two shows simultaneously while watching a DVD. The Toshiba RD-71 also uses the new HDMI digital connection. It was just released in Japan, so no news when or where else we'll see this sweet DVD/PVR combo. [via Sorobangeeks]
