With This PeepHole Viewer, You’ll Always Know Who’s At The Door

The front door of every home, even wired homes, serves as the first line of defense against intrusions. In today's fast-paced and dynamic world, no front door is complete without a peephole, which helps homeowners identify who's knocking or ringing the bell.

Although useful in checking if people are at your door, the decades-old peephole is unreliable in precisely identifying them as images viewed through the little fisheye lens, which shows a wide field of view, are often blurred or warped.

Home security camera maker Brinno Incorporated has come up with a simple and novel solution to this problem: the Brinno PeepHole Viewer.

The Brinno PeepHole Viewer is actually an upgrade of the conventional peephole. Instead of viewing what's outside your front door through a small peephole, you get to see images captured by the fisheye lens on an LCD display.

I know what you're thinking: the Brinno PeepHole Viewer is unnecessary and is just one of those gadgets that companies make you spend on.

To allay your apprehensions, let me present the difference between a regular peephole and the Brinno PeepHole Viewer:

Image Quality is Terrible I'm sure we all have had the chance to place one of our eyes near a peephole to check who's outside the front door. Notice how horrible the image is? This is because of the distortion that the fisheye lens causes. With the Brinno PeepHole Viewer, images seen by the lens remains crisp and vivid.

Poor Visibility in Low Light. It's easy to identify people and objects in the peephole's field of vision in daylight, but what about at dusk or in the evening? Aside from fisheye distortion compensation, Brinno's new baby also compensates for low light.

Not Everyone Can Peep Through the Hole. Peepholes are usually placed at eye level-an adult's eye level, that is. But what if you're, uhmm, vertically challenged? This isn't a problem with the Brinno PeepHole Viewer. Just push the button on the LCD display and you're good to go.

The Person/s at the Door Know Someone's Peeking Out. Yes, that's the sad truth: the person inside the house must place an eye to the door. This darkens the peephole and lets people outside know there's somebody home.

The Brinno PeepHole Viewer retails for about USD $130 at your friendly neighborhood home improvement store.
