Toshiba has launched a 3D HDTV that does away with the bulky glasses that were proving to be an impediment for the growth of the 3D HDTV market. Toshiba announced the HDTV at the IFA show in Berlin.
The new Toshiba 55LZ2 is a 55 inch flat panel HDTV which doesn't require glasses to view 3D content. It uses a technology called "lenticular lenslets" which sends separate images into each eye. The TV uses a head tracking technology to identify the faces and then it directs different images to the people in the room via a built in camera. At present the number of people it can accommodate is limited to nine. The HDTV also offers a visual treat with a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution screen which is also known as Quad-HD. The HDTV also has built in features to support Wi-Fi and 2D to 3D conversion support.
The TV is priced at a steep $11,000 which makes it difficult to sell in the mainstream market and it will still take some time for this new technology to be affordable for the average consumer.
